The Higher Education System in Austria

The Austrian higher education system is under the responsibility of the federal government and regulated by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung, Wissenschaft und Forschung) in coordination with local authorities.

Types of higher education institutions in Austria

There are three main types of higher education institutions in Austria:

  1. Universities: Universitäten are academic institutions that offer scientific education and research at all levels, including undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs.
