Founded in 1992, the University of Agribusiness and Rural Development is a non-profit private higher education institution located in the urban setting of the medium city of Plovdiv (population range of 250,000-499,999 inhabitants). This institution also has a branch campus in Veliko Tarnovo and Ruse. Officially recognized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Bulgaria, University of Agribusiness and Rural Development (UARD) is a small sized (uniRank enrollment range: 4,000-4,999 students) coeducational Bulgarian higher education institution. University of Agribusiness and Rural Development (UARD) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor's degrees, master's degrees and doctorate degrees in several areas of study. The Distance Learning Centre at the University of Agribusiness and Rural Development was established in response to society's demand for distance education. Currently, the Centre offers Bachelor's degree programs in Agricultural Economics, Business Management, Economics of Tourism, and Finance. It also provides Master's degree programs in Business Management and Finance and Banking. The courses are taught by renowned professors, associate professors, and assistants, as well as experienced experts from the industry. Students receive both theoretical and practical training, ensuring the international standard of knowledge and skills acquired.

The diplomas awarded through distance learning hold the same equivalence as those obtained through full-time attendance, adhering to the curriculum content and required credit hours in the respective specialties, as specified in Article 4 of the Ordinance on the State Requirements for Organization of Distance Learning in Higher Schools.
