Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro's Housing University Housing

Yes

Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro's housing offering includes an Accommodation Program, providing an enriched opportunity for students to experience the Brazilian way of life through a home-stay program.

International students are placed in home-stays located in the south zone of the city, close to the university, typically within a 30-40 minute distance by city bus. The host families, recommended by CCCI, represent a diverse range of incomes and situations, from individuals living alone to larger families with children. Each home has specific rules related to hygiene, safety, cooking, and hosting friends.

PUC-Rio serves as a liaison between exchange students and host families interested in receiving them. However, the university is not responsible for rent payment, student expenditures, or the student's compliance with house rules. Nevertheless, PUC-Rio is ready to support and mediate between both parties to improve their interaction, if necessary. It's important to note that there is no official contract between PUC-Rio and the host families; the families are independent and make decisions that are in their best interest.

During their stay, each student will sign a contract and pay the rent upfront. The rent includes a private room with a bed, a fan, weekly changes of sheets and towels, access to light and gas, and a Brazilian breakfast consisting of coffee, milk, bread, butter, jelly, and fruit. Kitchen and laundry facilities are also accessible, but telephone use is to be arranged directly between the student and the family. It should be noted that some houses have only shared rooms, leading to a lower rental cost per student than a private room. Additionally, not all homes have internet access available.
