Overview

Established in 1957, the Secretaría de Educación de Honduras -SE (Ministry of Education of Honduras) is the governmental body responsible for overseeing education in Honduras. Its mission is to provide access to quality education and promote the development of human resources in the country. The SE is responsible for formulating educational policies, managing the education budget and regulating and supervising all levels of education, from preschool to university. In terms of higher education, the Secretaría de Educación is responsible for regulating and accrediting universities and other institutions of higher education in Honduras. It also oversees the administration of scholarships and financial aid programs for students pursuing higher education. Additionally, the Secretaría de Educación is responsible for promoting research and innovation in higher education and fostering collaboration between universities and the private sector to promote economic development in the country.
