Established in 1918, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME) is an organization responsible for accrediting podiatric medical education programs in the United States. The CPME is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) as the accrediting agency for colleges of podiatric medicine and their affiliated programs. The CPME sets standards for the education and training of podiatric physicians, evaluates and accredits podiatric medical education programs and provides guidance and support to accredited programs to improve the quality of their education. The CPME consists of a board of directors and a number of committees responsible for various aspects of the accreditation process.
